This 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is finished in black with gold trim over a black interior and is powered by a replacement 400ci V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission.

The 400ci V8 is built on a four-bolt main block of 1970 vintage and have undergone in-period modifications that included the installation of #48 72cc cylinder heads with forged pistons that provide 10.5:1 compression.

Additional equipment includes a custom four-core radiator with dual cooling fans, an Oberg oil filter, and a custom dual exhaust with a balance pipe, Dynomax mufflers, and no catalytic converter.

Oil-pan baffles and trap doors, an alloy radiator support, and cooling-fan mounts with speed holes have been fabricated and installed.

The battery has been relocated to the trunk, and the oil was changed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with a custom reverse-lockout lever and a shortened Hurst shifter as well as a Saf-T-Track differential.

The car came equipped with the WS6 Special Handling Package and a limited-slip differential.

The car is finished in Starlight Black with gold graphics including a “Screaming Chicken” on the shaker hood.

Features include a front-center air dam, front-fender air extractors, front- and rear-wheel air deflectors, dual side mirrors, a rear spoiler, and downturned quad exhaust tips.

The modified shaker hood features a functional flapper controlled by a dash-mounted switch.

Other additions include Cibie H4 headlights and a Mercury Cougar sequential taillight turn-signal control.

The Trans Am WS6 Special Handling Package included front and rear sway bars, a tighter steering ratio, and 15×8″ snowflake wheels.

The 17×9″ gold-accented snowflake wheels on this car have been sourced from Year One and are wrapped in Cooper Zeon RS3-G1 tires showing 2022 date codes.

The car sits on lowering springs, and Bilstein shocks have been added at the corners.

Power braking is provided by full-size GM discs up front and oversized rear drums that were drilled and ventilated.

Black fabric Recaro seats feature red five-point TRW Sabelt camlock harnesses mounted to a custom harness bar.

Amenities include a Delco push-button AM/FM stereo and a rear-window defroster.

A remote trunk release was installed in the glovebox, a battery disconnect switch was added on the dashboard, and a Mopar-sourced reverse indictor light has been mounted on the lower dash by the driver’s right knee.

A second speaker was installed factory-style in the rear package tray, and a fire extinguisher is mounted on the rear tunnel.

The heater core is a replacement.

The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a machine-turned aluminum dash panel housing a 100-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as a factory-style oil-temperature gauge that has been installed adjacent to the existing auxiliary gauges.

The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles, total mileage is unknown.
