This 1972 Datsun 240Z underwent a refurbishment in 2013 that consisted of a color change to BMW Imola Red along with the installation of a Rebello Racing “Big Bore” 3.2-liter inline-six, which is equipped with triple Weber carburetors and linked to a five-speed manual transmission. The seats were also reupholstered in black leather as part of the project, and additional alterations consist of an R200 limited-slip differential, 17″ Konig Imagine wheels, Koni struts paired with Eibach springs, four-wheel disc brakes, a RetroSound Bluetooth stereo, and an air conditioning system that has been converted to use R134a refrigerant.
The Rebello Racing “Big Bore” 3.2-liter inline-six features a diesel crankshaft as well as special engine block preparation for a long-rod setup and has received cylinder head work in addition to a revised camshaft. When equipped with triple Weber 45 DCO carburetors and a TWM intake manifold like this example, Rebello Racing estimates a power output of 365 horsepower and 300 lb/ft of torque. A polished valve cover, an MSD digital ignition system, a gear-reduction starter, a rebuilt alternator from a 280Z, and an aluminum radiator with an electric cooling fan are also installed.
Power is sent reward via a five-speed manual transmission and a 3.90:1 R200 limited-slip differential sourced from a 280Z. Long-tube headers flow into a Dynomax exhaust system.
The body was stripped before a glass-out repaint in BMW Imola Red was carried out by Kultured Customs, during the refurbishment various seals, weatherstripping, and window trim items were also replaced at that time. A high-speed windshield wiper motor, a front air dam, a power-retractable antenna, and dual side mirrors are exterior details along with replacement chrome bumpers, badging, and taillights.
Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires measuring 225/45 are wrapped around 17″ Konig Imagine wheels. The car was factory equipped with rack-and-pinion steering and an independent suspension, the latter of which was fitted with a sway bar kit and Koni struts partnered with Eibach springs as part of the refurbishment. Power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with red calipers and cross-drilled and slotted rotors at each corner provide stopping power, he front rotors, master cylinder, and slave cylinder have been replaced.
Work to the interior during the refurbishment consisted of rebuilding the dashboard with a Just Dashes unit, replacing the locking glove box, installing a RetroSound Bluetooth stereo, and converting the air conditioning system to use R134a refrigerant. A center console with cup holders bisects the bucket seats, which were fitted with replacement foam from Motor Sport Auto before they were retrimmed in black leather. 240Z-branded floor mats line the footwells, and additional interior appointments include a Honda blower motor upgrade, an electric rear window defogger, and Datsun-branded carbon-fiber door sill plates.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline while an analog clock and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level are housed over the center stack.
The five-digit odometer have rolled over and shows 18k miles, total mileage is unknown.
