Power is provided by the original 302ci V8 backed by a C4 automatic transmission and a 3.00:1 rear end.The engine was removed, resealed and detailed in the 2000s, and external components including the power steering pump, starter and distributor were rebuilt at that time.Modifications include a Holley two-barrel carburetor, Pertronix ignition and a recently fitted dual exhaust with H-pipe.The engine number, 538037, corresponds to the vehicle serial number 8F93F538037, confirming the engine as original.The front suspension was recently rebuilt, and has few miles since completion.The car was repainted in its original Grecian Gold Poly around 1987 with two-stage base and clearcoat, bumpers re-chromed and the vinyl top and weatherstripping replaced.Correct XR-7 package wire wheel-style wheel covers are present.The car has covered just over 2,000 miles since completion.The sheet metal, bumpers, grille, taillights and trim are correctly date-coded.Exterior anodized aluminum trim, including the 6-piece grille surround and three-piece rear bumper surround, were recently restored.A set of air shocks are fitted in the rear, in preparation for sale was replaced the hood hinges and re-aligned the hood.The Cougar was intended as a more sporting GT car than the Mustang, and the XR-7 package included a simulated wood-grain dash, overhead console, T-style shifter and black leatherette upholstery.The instruments feature black faces with contrasting silver script, and interior features are controlled with an array of dash mounted toggle switches.Cruise control has been added and an aftermarket alarm is present.When the car was refurbished the black leather front seat covers were replaced, as were the carpets.The original leather rear seats and interior panels are original, and Ford-branded sill plates are present.Just under 53k miles are shown, and the odometer has rolled over.
