This 1963 Mercury Monterey is one of 3,863 S-55 two-door hardtops produced for the model year and was prepared by team owner Bill Stroppe with a 427ci V8 and a four-speed manual transmission for the 1963 Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

The car is finished in turquoise over turquoise vinyl upholstery, and additional equipment includes a 9″ rear differential, 15″ steel wheels, hubcaps, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, front coilover shock absorbers and rear airbags, traction bars, power-assisted steering, power brakes, front bucket seats, and an AM radio.

The 1963 Monterey hardtop models featured a “Breezeway” roof and a retractable rear window.

This two-door example sustained damage to the left front while being driven by Parnelli Jones on a return run down the mountain during practice for the 1963 Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

Finished from the factory in Peacock Turquoise (B), the car have been repaired and repainted after Pikes Peak before being sold as a used car at a nearby Mercury dealership.

Equipment includes chrome bumpers, stainless-steel and aluminum trim, quad headlights, pillarless door openings, and dual exhaust outlets.

The windshield was replaced in 2016.

Body-color 15″ steel wheels with dog-dish-style hubcaps are wrapped in Grand Prix Performance GT tires.

A matching spare is mounted in the trunk.

The car is equipped with power-assisted steering, and the suspension features front coilover shock absorbers, heavy-duty traction bars, and rear airbags with KYB shocks.

Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel drums.

A set of wheel covers is included in the sale.

The interior features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in Light Turquoise (57) vinyl with darker blue accents as well as a matching padded dashboard, door panels, and carpeting.

Additional equipment includes a power-operated driver seat, lap seatbelts, a heater, an eight-ball shifter, a center console, and an AM radio.

The carpeting and lower dash panels have been replaced.

The center-console lid shows a “Parnelli Jones 1963” signature that was applied by Jones in 1999.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer plus gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, alternator status, and coolant temperature.

A 10k-rpm VDO tachometer is mounted ahead of the shifter on the center console.

The five-digit odometer shows 14k miles, and true mileage is unknown.
