This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 was built at GM’s Kansas City, Missouri, assembly plant.
Power comes from a 402ci Turbo Jet L34 V8 mated to a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and a 12-bolt axle with 3.31:1 gears.
Additional equipment includes SS-style 14″ wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, a COMP Cams camshaft, a cowl induction hood with hold-down pins, and a Delco push-button radio.
Finished from the factory in Cranberry Red (75) with black stripes, the body was removed from the frame and repainted.
Features include a cowl induction hood with hold-down pins, “SS” badging, a driver-side mirror, bright trim, and dual polished exhaust outlets.
The frame is said to have powder coated black, and additional work involved replacing the windshield and re-plating the bumpers.
Super Sport-style 14″ wheels are mounted with Firestone Wide Oval FR70 tires.
The car is factory-equipped with the F41 Special Performance Suspension, which feature larger sway bars and boxed rear control arms. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features bench seats trimmed in black vinyl upholstery with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets.
Amenities include lap belts with front Deluxe Shoulder Harnesses, power steering, a heater and defroster, hand-crank side windows, black rubber floor mats, and a Delco push-button radio.
An SS-branded steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel level gauge.
The five-digit odometer indicates 1,600 miles, true mileage is unknown.
