This 1964 Galaxie 500 convertible is one of 204 built for the model year with a factory R-code 427ci V8, which features dual four-barrel carburetors and is paired with a four-speed manual transmission.The R-code 427ci V8 was rated at 425 horsepower thanks in part to the use of factory dual four-barrel carburetors on a cast aluminum intake manifold.The block, heads, carburetors, and intake manifold are date-coded to reflect manufacture date of the car in 1964.Just 204 1964 Galaxie 500 convertibles were built with the 427 V8 according to a 1972 letter from Ford Motor Company.Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed Toploader manual transmission, and a new-old-stock exhaust system was sourced.The chassis and suspension were refurbished to stock specifications.The floor pans are finished in red oxide primer, and several factory-style inspection markings have been applied to underbody components.The body was repainted in its original Vintage Burgundy following the repair of a section of the driver’s-side floor pan in 2012, and the exterior trim and bumpers were refinished.15″ steel Hi-Po Ford wheels and NOS 1964 Ford hubcaps were also sourced and mounted with reproduction Firestone Deluxe Champion bias-ply tires.The car has been shown at AACA National and Grand National meets, earning Junior and Senior awards in the Factory High Performance Ford class for vehicles built between 1960-1969.An AACA Grand National First Prize tag from 2013 hangs below the front bumper.The refurbished interior is equipped with chrome-trimmed dual bench seats trimmed in black vinyl, with correct Ford lap belts provided for four occupants.Ribbed vinyl floor mats protect the carpeting.Equipment consists of an AM/FM radio, heater, and a bench-seat-specific floor shifter.The trunk is lined with a new-old-stock vinyl mat , and houses a matching spare HiPo wheel and jack.Instrumentation includes a horizontal-sweep speedometer and a reset odometer which show 40 miles.
